Hmmm... I don’t really know what to say about this one. It was good, I enjoyed it, but it definitely had its flaws. (I agree with most of the examples of this given by other reviewers). All in all, it was good, but I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed. (And confused. XD)

After a year of dipping in and out I have finally finished the Witcher saga. This final entry into the main series did not focus so closely on the main characters Gerald, Yen and Ciri, but rather on the continent as a whole and the chaos, destruction and prophecy of doom to befall it. There were many time jumps, events, new characters and worlds to delve into, that I’m sure many readers would feel detract from the main storyline. However I quite enjoyed the change in style for this final entry, especially the lengthy war chapter in which our main characters were not even a part of. Ambitious writing from the author and definitely not fan service!

It has been a tumultuous journey reading these books and whilst I can say I at times loved and loathed them, this was a solid final entry and the ambiguous ending will keep my contemplating for a while. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out on the small screen in future…

I don’t care much for the way the characters in these novels continue to find themselves in unwinnable situations and then just get saved by some outside force. That happens at multiple points just in this book. That being said, still a really compelling narrative. Unfortunately, I do have to assume that this author loves the image of young women suffering. I think there’s a certain level to which I just like my fantasy to be a bit more optimistic, and these books don’t fulfill that. They don’t even give the satisfaction of having the main characters overcome through their own power, rather having them be saved on a whim whenever the author feels like it. Destiny, indeed.

I was intrigued by the succinct way the stories of the side characters were finished. The ending was too ambiguous for my tastes though.
