2.5 stars.
Dragged out way too long. Very anticlimactic. I hated most of the characters and Evangeline carried the entire book. Somehow the characters continued to be even more insufferable until the end, but at least it was sort of realistic?? I'm so glad it's over. The book is not irredeemable, just not very good.

A good ending to the series. I loved the plot and the world of this whole series. The world felt real and well thought out. I did like the characters themselves but it did feel like they went in circles with regards to character development. Most of the characters hadn’t grown or changed by the end of the series which is not very believable considering all they went through. I’m glad I decided to pick this series up, it still holds up today unlike many early 2010s YA books. I would love to see Victoria Aveyard write some adult fantasy novels, her world building would be great for that audience.

Probably my least favorite of the series and I didn't particularly enjoy the ending, but I enjoyed the series as a whole and am constantly recommending it to my students.
