Forehead kisses for Will and Fern šŸ˜˜ I think Carley Fortune might officially be my favorite romance author.

Meet Me at the Lake sat on my shelf for a while collecting dust in Every Summer Afterā€™s shadow. I should never have doubted queen Carley! šŸ™‡ Told in a ā€œthen and nowā€ timeline, Fern and Will spent a magical, life-altering day together 10 years ago and made plans to meet again in a year. Will showed upā€¦ 9 years later. šŸ‘€

Leave it to Carley to take a trope I normally hate and pull it off. I was SO nervous the day they spent together would feel insta-lovey but surprisingly, I loveddd this! It ended up feeling like a magical, whirlwind day where pieces just fell into place with the right people at the right time.

Read this if you like:
  • Then & now timelines
  • Summerrrr romance
  • Finding yourself trope
  • Coffee ā˜•

I love how she writes characters that feel so real and are going through real issues. Her books are messy and emotional which is right up my alley when it comes to romance imo. I also read this on my vacation to Vancouver which was PERFECT because this book is set in various parts of Canada (Muskoga, Toronto, and Vancouver).

4.5 ās only because Every Summer After is still my favoriteee! Canā€™t wait to read This Summer Will Be Different in May :)

Please, just one romance without a third act breakup, Iā€™m beggingggggg

Overall, I appreciate the adult romance from Fortuneā€¦ it felt a little icky I was so invested in a high school romance with ESA. And this felt a lot steamier. But stillā€¦ the last act break up must be banned. We all know how itā€™s going to end after the fact.

While this book didn't resonate with me as much as the author's first, I liked the premise of this story and found it an easy read. Loved the way the author uses location descriptions- it's a lot of fun as someone from the region.

The emotions this book elicited from me caught me off guard in the best way possible. I went into this with the impression that it was going to be a second chance, right person/wrong time, romance but when I tell you I was in TEARS at certain points in this book I mean it. It pulls at your heart strings and leaves you with this tender-hearted love for these characters and their journeys and how, inevitability, they are once again brought back together (even if it was 10 years "too late"). I had such a great time listening to this book and loved every second of Fern and Will's story.

ā Thereā€™s nothing less appetizing than a manā€™s bare foot, āž ..... excuse meā€” ???

Meet Me at the Lake is a book with a beautifully designed cover art that perfectly complements the storyline. The story follows the journey of a couple who get a second chance at love, with the plot alternating between their past and present day.

As a reader, I found that the alternating storylines between the past and the present day can be confusing if the details are not provided. However, this is a popular style in the second-chance romance genre, and readers who enjoy easy summer romances will likely find this book delightful.

Personally, I found it hard to connect with the characters and their relationships, which unfortunately led to me losing interest reasonably early on. Despite this, I think the book has the potential to be a hit with readers who are looking for a light and easy summer read.

I wasn't fully sold on this book and this love story until maybe 75% of the way through. I just didn't get hooked and kept getting distracted until I was almost crying. The three story timelines were well done, but lack of communication is such a not fav for me.
