So, with four more books in the series it’s pretty safe to assume that this won’t literally be anyone’s last breath. There’s an attempt to up the action a little, but there’s a sense of things being dragged out rather.
When the novel starts we’re focused on the upcoming plans to celebrate Michael and Eve’s wedding plans. Humans and vampires alike are unhappy. But this quickly becomes a story in the background as bigger things are happening.
Vampires are going missing. There’s a shadowy figure wandering round Morganville that nobody other than Claire can see. Amelie receives a warning to run...
Switching viewpoints made it slightly more interesting. But not much.

What I love most about this series is there is sooo many books and they never ever get boring, this is number 11 and im already dying to read number 12.. gahh I've really got to wait huh? Luckily not a long wait with number 12 'Black Dawn' expected to be published in May 2012! Phew!
Last Breath was filled with romance, drama, mystery, action and bucket full of suspense, You just had to keep reading.. well least I did.
I reccomend you start at the beginning if you haven't read the rest of the series because you'll get to know the characters and really fall in love with them all and not just that you'll get to understand really whats going on.
When I didnt think Caine had anymore crazy events to pull out the bag I was certainly wrong.. Last Breath has a load of crazyness in there and the turn of events that happned shocked me.. the book had me hooked from the start!

Definately reccomend to anyone who loves vampires.. this rocks!

This was my favourite book by far. It had action and twists that made it very difficult to put it down.

Loved it ...got sucked in as usual...disappointed about Amelie though, didn't see it coming!

Re-read (22.06.21): Left my rating at 4 stars. It's definitely really good... but not got that wow factor for a 5 star rating.

Can't wait for the next one!

The review contains book 10 spoilers

Okay, so let's get a few things straight, I love this series. Like, I really really do. It's super fun and surprising, and I love the romance, the action, and the plot.

So, imagine my surprise when, thanks to an edit I did on Leafmarks, I came to the stunning, horrifying realization that I've read the last installment in the series nine months ago.

Nine months! Where did the time go!? What exactly happened in those nine months? Regardless, the moment I realized this atrocity, I picked up my copy of Last Breath, and pretty much the next day I was reading it.

I had forgotten how much I love the characters in this book. Their interactions made me smile and laugh so much, even though dire things happen. Like, there's never a moment of pure happiness. And if there is, it means someone's going to die soon.

And still, the overall feel of the book is the opposite of the downer it should be.

Though, I've got to admit - how much I love everyone is not the only thing I forgot. Thanks to the huge gap in reading, I forgot details from the last books. Like Eve and Micheal getting engaged. That kind of blindsided me (and thank god Caine didn't drag out their issues, because they need some happy time!)

We also had a new couple brewing in this novel aside from our faves Claire and Shane (total OTP for this series!) and Michael and Eve. Personally, I think they are long overdue. I felt the sexual tension between them back in book one! Can't wait to see what happens there.

But romance is not really the main issue in this novel. Oh no, not at all. What Caine does here is pretty unique and unheard of - though I admit to having felt less of the impact of it thanks to... spoilers. I've been waiting for it to happen since I accidentally read of it. And yes, it was still exciting, but I knew how it would be solved, so there wasn't any anxiety involved, which is unfortunate.

But if you, dear reader, go into this book unawares, I guarantee the shock of your life and a twist to make you completely unable to even! And then there's that cliffy... *sigh*

On a few technical notes, this book introduces several new POVs, including Eve's, Micheal's, and Amelie's. And they are in first person, which was a bit jarring at first because I've gotten used to Claire's third person pov style.

Surprisingly enough, I kind of hated Amelie's pov, even though I really do like her as a character. I especially loved Micheal's voice, and Shane's voice completely redeemed itself after the last book - in which his POV kind of made me... hate him? I hate hating characters I love (and yes, that is a logical sentence), so I'm happy to be back on track with him!

On a side note; that is the worst synopsis ever.

I have been very anxiously awaiting this book and it didn't disappoint even in the slightest. I loved that we got a switch up from the usual 'Morganville is in crisis, must be Tuesday' sort of deal. I loved how she used the mythology, twisted it a bit and turned it to fit the world. This particular book was written from several points of views rather than just Claire's and I liked that because you got to see in Amelie's head a little bit and Michael's, Eve's and Shane's as well. This was also chock full of Myrnin, who is still without a doubt (and now maybe more so) my favorite character in the series. It's funny, scary, full of pop culture references that make you smile and the pace is furious in a very good way. I read this in less than twenty four hours because I literally did not want to put it down.
