Sadly, Buried Bones didn't really do it for me. This was a pretty self-contained mystery, which I liked, but I found there was very little emotion to it considering it involved a murder? and it was solved so quickly and in the most obvious way possible. I was also surprised, but not upset, that some of the deaths here seemed to be more violent and gore-y than the previous books! But the thing I was interested most here was Patience and what was going on with her, so the ending was super sweet to me. I am curious to see where the rest of the series goes.

It does seem funny to call a murder mystery series a "comfort read," but that's what I feel whenever I return to Widow's Island (whichever author it is bringing me there). In this case, it's Melinda Leigh with another case on the small island.

As I finish the last chapter, I realize… while the case was an interesting puzzle, the cases aren't why I enjoy this series so much: it's the people. After a few books, they become "faraway friends," those friends you don't live close to but you're happy when you run into them again. Whether it's the small professional team (law enforcement and doctor, for example) or the personal relationships… it is always good to catch up with them again

I love this series and each new book brings new drama and suspense. Tessa can't seem to stop stumbling on crime scenes but with the help of her hunky fiancée she always manages to solve the case! Absolutely loved this story and couldn't stop once I started!

On a hike with her sister, Deputy Tessa Black finds the buried bones of a missing college student. With the help of her fiancé Logan, Tessa races to find the dangerous predator on Widow's Island.

This novella was the perfect way to spend the afternoon! There are several plausible suspects introduced in the story, which hooks you immediately. Despite its short length, the story moved at an appropriate pace, featured well-developed characters, and offered an unexpected twist or two. I enjoyed this glimpse into life on this quaint island.
