Reread/Relisten: April 2024

Okay this one is my least favorite of the series lol. Hugh is annoyingly oblivious, and Finch doesn't do much to help him out haha.

Original Read/Listen: May 2021
Audio: 5 Stars
Book: 3-3.5 stars

Both Hugh and Finch both needed to get their heads out of the sand and see what was right in front of them.

I will say that because of the (I don’t know the right word...) cluelessness or innocence of Hugh when he was high I don’t think I could have laughed more! That whole scene was great.

Also again another human baby was born... and again decided that is not what I am going to enjoy. I can deal with eggs or something not human but once’s a normal baby comes out of the butt that’s where I’m like ehhh no.

I am definitely interested in what happened to Perry since he wasn’t at the birth of Theodore, I hope nothing too bad!!

The couple is adorable, the humor is top notch, and the plot was solid. I had a great time watching Finch and Hugh stumble their way to love and acceptance from each other (and themselves). They had such a sweet and selfless dynamic. The world needs more love interests who don’t know how to wrap gifts but puts your name on some anyhow.

Edited on November 7, to review the audiobook
Audiobook code received from GRR in exchange for an honest review.

What should I say? Michael Ferraiuolo narrating Hugh.... WAS PERFECTION!
I didn't know that i was able to love Hugh anymore than i already did, but after hearing him,.... that ship has sailed.
This audiobook was pretty close to perfect. my jaw hurt from all the smiling. I couldn't wipe that smile off my face throughout the hours of this audiobook. Michael truly added another layer to this story, he gave more depth to the characters and him narrating all of those DRAKES!!!!
YUP...THIS BOOK WAS A MASTERPEICE AND I HAD MULTIPLE EARGASMS!
PHEW!
Brava Mr. Ferraiuolo. BRAVA!

I honestly devoured this book and couldn't put it down. Only very crucial adulting had me leaving it with a heavy heart.

Why you ask? Because Hugh.

There are other reasons of course, the writing, the plot, the Drakes.... yes all of that was exceptional.... But Hugh. Hugh was in a word, clueless and as such stole my heart and haven't let go. He is now firmly sitting next to Everard on the *Favorite Drake Throne*. It's purple and perfect.

Time to start the review now I guess? Ok? Ok!

**** Highly Recommended Cluelessness (Yes it's a word) ****

For fans of #DragonShifters #Mpreg #Mates #unrequitedLove #WorkplaceRomance

Why read this book..

1. The Characters....

Hugh Drake is an Amethyst Dragon desperate for a clutch of his own. His sanctioned period is almost done, and he wants to be a father more than anything. #CallMeDaddy.... but not in a kinky way

Delightful

Hugh was so clueless and sweet. I loved seeing these two realize their feelings. The dragons were delightful though I am now worried for Peregrine. I hope the next book sheds light on his problems.

Hugh is absolutely precious ❤️

Squeeee! This book is everything I never knew I wanted from the Forbidden Desires series. Obviously I adore this series and it's characters so I'm so happy we got to see more of them, especially Harry ❤️ Hugh is a total scatter brained goofball and I love him even more for it. We can't forget Finch, Hugh's ever present secretary, and his perfect role in this story. Finch was so amazing and put together and I can totally see why Hugh needed him. This book was full of every kind of emotion. There was laughter and tears and I could NOT put this book down. I got it while at work and only stopped reading long enough to drive home. I was up until 3am to finish this amazing book and I don't regret a moment of it. I think I may actually just read it again. As always Virginia and Piper don't disappoint. ❤️❤️ I can't wait for what's next!

Fantastic

Another great entry into the Forbidden Desires world. I loved Finch and Hugh. They were great and perfect.

This book as all the others in these series are hilarious and so good.

I liked this book. It was a bit of a slow burn, taking about half the book or more to get their heads to match their hearts. Hugh was funny. Despite being 900 years old, he is extremely clueless and his mate Finch is so put together, it’s why they are perfect for each other. It was good, but I gave it 4 stars because I’m not much of a slow burn girl.

Fast to read romance that made time fly by easily.

Content warnings include: a/b/o setting featuring mpreg, dragon shifters, unplanned pregnancy, unprotected sex on-page, assault, drugging, extremely binary language, incest (p far removed cousins but nevertheless).

Hugh was such a himbo, sweet and kind and oblivious in some things, yet incredibly inuitive in others. Finch was lovely too, not nearly as severe as he made himself out to be, but organized and competent.
They made for a lovely couple.

The book didn't really expand on the worldbuilding as I had hoped, but it does make a lot of hints towards past and upcoming books of the series. I loved the cameos, but to be honest I would have liked to see more of the characters from the previous books and how they are doing rather than glimpses into upcoming ones.

I had two issues with the book: one was about the extremely binary language. It was always "he or she", "son or daugher", "boy or girl." As a nonbinary reader, I found that exhausting. I mean, hello, gender-neutral language is right there! Also who are we kidding 99% of the cast is and will be male anyways.
The second was about the lack of established consent, which is a reoccurring theme in the series, especially in regards to heats and pregnancy. At no point did anyone consider if Finch wanted kids - even he himself never talks or thinks about it. Of course it all works out for all characters involved in the end and they all very much get what they want, and it's not implied otherwise, but I still found several scenes iffy.

I also could have done without
Spoiler the incest. Sure, their relation is pretty far removed (Finch is Hugh's second cousin twice removed) but I feel like there could have been another solution for Finch's heritage that doesn't have them share blood.

Overall a great addition to the series and a sweet romance that I enjoyed myself reading.

I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Finch, like the rest of the Forbidden Desires series, was an enjoyable read about a dragon finding his mate and subsequently bearing him a clutch or dragonet child. The Drake finding love this time was the adorably eccentric Hugh in the form of falling for his secretary Finch. These two couldn't be more different. Hugh is a go with the flow type while Finch has everything organized within an inch of its life. I honestly believe Hugh when he tells Finch he would be lost without him. The poor man takes everything quite literally and much goes over his head. It was absurd and again adorable being in his head during his ponderings.

Finch was much more serious. He had a long time wistful crush on his boss but his professionalism would never let him speak of it, let alone act on it. He knew Hugh desired a clutch above all else and being a Disgrace he believed that job would never fall to him. Not that anyone knew of his lineage because Finch kept that secret close to the vest. Even when Hugh was actively seeking out potential Disgraces to take one on as a mate as his brothers did in the hopes of gaining offspring, Finch sadly kept his mouth shut.

The two danced around each other for quite some time. It almost got to the point where if they didn't do SOMETHING I was gunna throw my kindle. (Just kidding.. I would never throw my precious baby.) Anyways, when they finally did come together it was definitely hot! and yes we have knotting *wink wink*.

I'd recommend this one if you are a fan of the series as there are multiple cameos of past mated couples. There is also something going on with Perry that is only hinted at and has me really wanting more info. It does not appear to be good. I'm wondering if we will get a book with him and Sébastian as MCs or if it will be followed up in the next installment as a subplot. Either way I'll be reading it.
