If only the author hadn't been constrained by the typical romance novel format. I would have loved to see more detail in the last third of the book. It didn't quite live up to the novella in richness. All that being said, I adored it and will likely reread someday.

Ugh. This book is amazing. I loved Ying ying/Catherine and Leighton. Their dynamic was so unique. The action is amazing. The love story is perfect. I couldn’t stop listening. A+++. Best book I’ve read in a while.

I'm so glad I finally picked up the second half of this duology. If you like your romance with a major portion of wuxia action and adventure this might just be for you!

Did not finish. I've loved other books by the author but for me this one just wasn't engaging. The characters seemed disjointed from their past selves and seemed to act with questionable motivation.

I wonder if I’d have liked this better without reading the prequel first. I’m disappointed. I generally adore Sherry Thomas but this series just wasn’t for me. I found myself more interested in how the engagement was called off than in discovering the treasure that wasn’t, but the story didn’t run along those lines alas.
