Another published fanfic. Started out okay, but like with all fanfics that are pushed to market, the characters are flat and the romance is lackluster. I wish books came with a tag about being published fanfic because I am tired of slogging through books where the author couldn't be bothered to make their own unique characters.

Some parts of this book were fun and cute, but I was overwhelming bored and unconvinced of the whole Gwen and Xander/Alex romance. Gave very much, "shes not like the other girls"

Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto is a beautifully crafted story that’s as much about personal growth as it is about love. The way Gwen and Alex evolve individually and together is deeply moving, and the side characters, especially Mabel, add such richness to the narrative. What truly sets this book apart, though, is the writing. The music is brought to life in such a vivid and emotional way that you can almost hear the orchestra in the background, feeling the goosebumps rise on your arms as the notes swirl around you. The passion between Gwen and Alex is palpable, even if their initial attraction seemed more physical. But the real heart of this story is in the way the characters grow, both in their music and their hearts. This is a book that will stay with you long after you finish it, and I’m excited to see what Julie Soto does next! This book will make you feel all of the things!
