It always feels like coming home to read Tamora Pierce and I still love reading Alanna's adventures.
I thought the ending and the villain were a bit silly, considering past events, but I liked the character work in this one. Alanna grew up and gained perspective, and everyone she grew up with also moved into positions of responsibility.
The strength of this series is showing all the characters maturing slowly over time. Even though I felt like certain parts should have been expanded on, or foreshadowed more, I still really liked it overall.

I enjoyed this whole series! It’s definitely going in my comfort read rotation. I wish someone had put these books in my hands when I was a teenager.
Conflicted. Overall I liked the series, but I wasn't a big fan of this one, especially the later parts and the finale. Tayet and Buri were both great, though, and I like that Jon is less of an asshole as a friend than as a lover.
