i felt like the pacing in the first half of this book was kind of slow and the stakes low and a bit aimless. even though we the audience get the sense roger is back and up to no good alanna ignores all her visions / dreams to stay on her quest. the new characters are neat but i did not get very attached to them and preferred the parts of this book that cut away to alanna's previous companions and their going ons. i also feel like the villains in this book couldve been built up to be a more menacing presence, especially the side villains. i also thought the final fight when alanna is in the tomb was a bit anticlimactic.
all of that said the pace really picks up in the last quarter of the book when alanna sets out to return home, and i thought overall it was a nice end to a very fun quartet. i think the first two books will always be my favorite but this was still a good read !!!
