Alanna is for sure a mary sue with how much she wins every fight and constantly has cool artifacts and abilities handed to her, and any bit of turmoil she goes through is solved very quickly. But the fact that shes The Best To Ever Do It  doesnt take away from engine else in the story and just comes across as camp. Also I love that when it comes to her romances she just does whatever she wants. Theres no semblance of purity culture or anything.

I also, yet again, wish there was more detail in some of the scenes. Almost all of the big moments gloss over all the important bits. So many of the impactful and heartwrenching parts of this book happen OFF page, and not to mention the final fight scene with the big bad just felt anticlimactic as a whole to me, especially compared to some of the precious fights in the earlier books.

I did have a lot fun though. And though these books are definitel  a little outdated in views and representstion of some characters, I think as a whole these books and this series are just silly and fun.  So if you read them dont take any of it seriously and just enjoy the story for what it is.

Also I'l probably read the next one

Had to finish rereading the series. Meh. It was a fun read. I definitely liked it a lot more when I read it in high school. This book was a good end to the series, even though it was long. And while Alanna is fierce but so predictable. And I’m bored with her challenges always being the same thing. :)

Meh, very okay. This was a reread for me.
Not much was super memorable and the beginning especially was pretty uninteresting. Things pick up once Alanna returns from the roof of the world.

Maybe I am just too old for the series; I remember liking it a lot when I was younger, enough that I wanted to reread it now. But I found that the pacing was all over the place with huge time jumps and important plot points thrown in when needed without context which lessens the enjoyment for me. Entertaining enough, but I won’t be reading them again.

Weird and sad. The dystopian finale is very different than the tone of the first two books and was not enjoyable or even very interesting.

A great end to a great series. Looking forward to starting the rest of the Tortall universe books.
