M- age 10 - 4/5 stars - Funny because as a beginning the fairy godmother mixed up a kid with a kid joke is really funny Funny that the goat as a family member.

E- age 8- 5/5 stars - I like once upon a goat because the fairy grandmother accidentally mixed up but a girl with a goat kid with a kid and a cause that she was delivering a baby goat to goats and a baby to the king and queen and she accidentally mixed it up so then at the end they’ll get used to the goat and they like it and then the fairy godmother goes over to the goat family and takes away the baby but the goat family already that used to the baby so at the end the queen that took the baby and the goat and then to to go to mom and daddy’s so then they lived in that crazy castle.

Me- A really cute just for fun picture book because who doesn’t love an adorable goat?

Cute read aloud about an unexpected family. Lends itself to making predictions.

Have you ever felt like the Stork dropped off the wrong kid? Or, maybe you weren't specific enough when you made that one wish to your fairy godmother?

The king and queen in Once Upon a Goat experience both of the situations above, and it's hilarious. In an honest mix-up, a baby goat is placed with the royal human family. Chaos naturally ensues, as does lots of love and growth. Sometimes you might wish you can choose your family....and sometimes, family chooses you.

Funny, ridiculous, and warm. A picture book that parents, teachers, and kids (of all kinds!) will enjoy.

After reading this to my students (or recording it because of Covid 19) I thought it would be fun to read the Latvian tale Hedgehog boy. But it feels weirder reading to children knowing that their parents are probably listening. Too much beer and throwing sticks and rocks at the underhedgehog... Oh well, Once upon a goat is an almost perfect update to the inappropriate version I have in my library of practically the same idea.

Well this is just about the cutest thing I've ever read. I mean, how can you not love a wee baby goat?! This was a fun take on a traditional "once upon a time" fairy tale. I loved the "chewed on" end papers at the beginning, and the whole story is full of hilarity- in both the illustrations and the text. I'm sure this would make a fun read aloud, so long as the audience could see what is happening in the illustrations (because this picturebook truly needs the reader to 'read' both the drawings and the text). *** Adults may have to explain the word play with the term "kid."
