I intentionally wanted to start 2023 off with a Julia Whelan narrated book. This has been on my library to read list for a while and I'm glad I finally made it a priority to listen to!
This story is told from two perspectives, Piper and Joanna. Piper is new to town and meets Leo who is still wearing a wedding ring, but they connect strongly and quickly. Joanna is in love with Leo and the children and has supported the family through Leo's depression. When Piper and Leo's connection grows into love, Joanna starts to suspect Piper isn't who she says she is and digs into her past to prove to Leo that he belong with her.
I DID NOT see the ending coming!! But once it was revealed, the things that didn't make sense to me through the story (why are the children calling her Joanna? It seems weird to tell them that she died when she can no longer see them? What's Joanna's hang up with her therapist) all fell into place in an incredible satisfying way!
An excellent start to the reading year!

This was a DNF. Chick lit with ridiculous dialog and premise. Hard pass. Noting such so I don't forget and pick it up again.

I usually enjoy books by this author but this one was a miss for me. I couldn't stand any of the characters. The things that happened were so ridiculous. I knew there had to be a twist that explained it all, but it took forever to get there. The ending was vague and unsatisfying.
At the beginning of this book I had a few concerns and thought the narrative was obvious. The progression of the book made it intriguing and I found myself just waiting in anticipation of an ending I had imagined. Huge plot twists and it made me enjoy the story than when it first began.
I abandoned this book after roughly 16 chapters because I couldn’t handle anymore. I hated every character, their choices, and the ridiculous scenarios.
