Cole, Mira, Twitch, and Jace escaped the Sky Raiders and defeated Mira's shaping power. They are on their way to Elloweer. Their goal is to find Mira's sister, Honor. Her star in the sky came out then disappeared. She needs her help, but only Mira saw the sign.
Rogue Knight picks up where Sky Raiders left off. If you can't remember the whole story of book one, I would highly recommend re-listening to Sky Raiders. I started with the last disc of Book 01 and it helped immensely.
Rogue Knight was just as captivating as Sky Raiders. Elloweer's shaping power is different, so the group meets new friends and enemies along their travels. Cole also comes in contact with others not from the Outskirts. (I don't want to give anything away!) In addition to meeting others who help (or hurt) the young warriors, share more information about themselves. The story is slowly unfolding, but there is so much more to come!
Rogue Knight wraps up well. There is humor, magic, battles, and surprises. I didn't feel that there was a cliff hanger, which I appreciate! I'm still invested in the story and the characters, so an intense cliff hanger is not needed. As with the first book, middlers will enjoy this adventurous tale, but younger ones might be unprepared for the battle scenes. I would advise adults to preview the tale for any nervous younger readers. It's reported that the next title comes soon. Mark your calendars, readers! I know it's on my to-read list.
Keith Nobbs returns to read Rogue Knight! I think he maintained his characters well. It was a good listen. I hope that he will return for the next title in the series, Crystal Keepers.

Buku kedua dari seri Five Kingdoms ini masih berlanjut dengan petualangan Cole dan teman-temannya di Outskirts. Di buku kedua ini mereka lebih banyak menghabiskan waktu di Elloweer Kingdom. Ternyata sihir di Elloweer ini bekerja dengan berbeda dari Sambria. Kalau di Sambria mostly sihirnya lebih ke shaping real objects, di Elloweer sihirnya lebih ke permainan ilusi.
Misi utama Cole dkk kali ini adalah menemukan Honor, salah satu dari lima Pemberton Princesses yang hilang. Misi ini tentu tidak mudah karena bisa dibilang Cole dkk itu sudah seperti buronan semenjak kejadian di buku pertama. Cole juga semakin banyak belajar mengenai kehidupan di Five Kingdoms, kekuatan yang ternyata ia miliki, dan ia juga mendapat banyak teman & musuh baru sepanjang buku ini.
Plot cerita buku kedua ini sebenarnya cukup oke walaupun menurutku masih tidak seseru buku pertamanya. Kalau buku pertamanya benar-benar bisa membuatku fokus dari pertengahan sampai akhir cerita, buku kelanjutannya ini tidak begitu. Less attention grabber lah gitu. Jadi mudah terdistract dan jadi lama selesainya.
Petualangan Cole tentu tidak selesai begitu saja di buku ini. Masih ada 3 buku lainnya dengan latar belakang kerajaan yang berbeda. Katanya kingdom di buku ketiga jauh berbeda daripada Sambria dan Elloweer. Kita lihat saja nanti apakah ceritanya juga akan jadi jauh lebih seru.

This series is getting better. I am reading it with my 5th grader and he is coming home running to his book. This is wonderful.

I loved it! Like all his books, Brandon Mull's story is as funny and adventurous as some of my other favourite books! I can't wait to read the next one!
