Considering I didn't read this as a child, it's strange reading it now. Mary is frustrating at the beginning but she became okay after a while but the children don't speak like children, they speak too adult like. Dixon felt like a Gary Stu, he seemed too perfect and although I love the setting. The story relies on elements of the same thing that just start to get boring after a while but I probably would have enjoyed this more if I was younger.
