Reminded me in all the best ways of [b:A Monster Calls|25480342|A Monster Calls|Patrick Ness|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1430763000l/25480342._SY75_.jpg|13492114]. The power of stories, the deeps of love, the intensely conflicting feelings of love and grief and holding fast and letting go.

Winner of the 2021 Newbery medal.

TL;DR: A girl moves in with her halmoni unexpectedly and must contend with the shifting beliefs of everyone around her. The superpower she has come to rely on, invisibility, starts acting up.

This book made me believe in magic and stories again, and YES -- it also made me cry at seeing the love between this little family. Every character showed their love in a different way, and it was all beautiful and bittersweet. The only downside is now I have to collect myself to go into work after sobbing.

I liked this, but maybe didn’t LOVE it. My favorite bits were the tiger stories.

Gorgeous meditation on grief and family history and the stories that define us.

This was a really cute book. It was also super meaningful and had such a nice message. I’m a bit emo about it tbh🥹🥹🥹

The character development and pacing was really good and I love how it tied in Korean culture and mythology.

I related so much to Lily’s internal struggles and I love how she developed during the book. #growth

Also Halmoni was such a queen.
