Right now, I cannot write a review that does this book justice, because I read it as a kind of palate cleanser after The Word for World is Forest. Maybe that's why it took me about 244 pages to realize that this book might possibly reference Macbeth... Which I haven't read, to be fair.

I should probably read Macbeth and come back to this book sometime, to fully understand all the references Terry Pratchett masterfully wove into this gripping and funny story of his.

A classic but suffering from being one of the first in the witches series. All the foundation for the better following ones are there, but something is missing, hence only 4/5 stars. Always worth a read.

Definitely my favourite Terry Pratchett book so far. I'm very biased because I love all his novels, but this one was particularly delightful. The witches were funny and lovable, the parallels to Macbeth were hilarious (and sometimes unexpectedly dark) and I laughed out loud several times. Truly an excellent, lighthearted read.

I miss Ankh-Morpork, but I love the witches
