I hate cliffhangers.  And who the hell is the Frenchman?! That ending made me mad bc I was just so confused. Guess I have to start reading book two now…

Happy people can’t pick up pennies with their ass cheeks.

I loved this enough to immediately pick up the next book in the series, but I did have to remind myself several times of the FMC’s age due to what felt like the ability not to stand up for herself to get answers. We will see how the story continues to play out as the summer romance trope gives me anxiety 😂

this was incredibly underwhelming. sean and dom felt like teenagers to even tho they're 26. the plot was meh and their whole relationship barely had any chemistry, it felt like they went from strangers to lovers within a few pages without any build up.

I Understand Why BookTok is Divided

I think the author was going for the gripping nostalgia of your first heartbreak but unfortunately landed in watching your best friend let some walking red flags gaslight her and treat her like shit and now you have to go slash some tires while you listen to her on speakerphone explain away their behaviour.

Both male leads were ATROCIOUS and were all the bad parts of toxic and none of the good. Somehow they felt even more toxic than male leads I’ve read who lock a woman up in their house to share and I will say that that’s a testament to how realistic this writer reads - Cecilia feels incredibly real; to the thoughts she has to the way she lets men treat her, but it’s almost too realistic that I can’t get behind any of the sex scenes (even though a lot of them were a good amount of spicy) because it genuinely feels like im standing by while a good person is being abused by these absolutely horrible men that are easily hate-able.

Honestly the best part of the book is when Cecelia walks away from these dudes and the author tries to frame it as a “not all loves stories have a happy ending” but I honestly wish the story had ended right there with her walking away from those assholes and never looking back even if these guys still wanted her cause THAT was the ending that felt like justice and like true love for herself, but from the first chapter you know she’s gonna let these pretentious fake deep emo men treat her like shit for life.

This ended up not working for me. I know it's been really popular and a friend of mine is really liking it but it was on the slow side for me. I found myself getting bored and it was hard to stay focused. I think part of the reason it was hard to stay interested was that a lot of things were very vague. There are is a lot of intrigue that just kept going in circles with no end in sight.

Another thing that seemed to make it drag was the whole book was a flashback with a lot of inner monologues that are questionably important to the overall story.
