I think the strongest moments in these stories is when a situation is left ambiguous or the heroes are shown to be fallible. While I can often appreciate the sentiment of each story, they can at times feel dated. For instance, the story about the problems of overpopulation does not address at all our economic system which intentionally keeps people from necessities. I also feel the writer relies on stereotypes even when trying to highlight the horrors of bigotry, which undercuts the effectiveness of the stories. That being said the storytelling itself and the decision to cover current events still feels like an innovative decision

I love this whole volume-if only to laugh at the contradictory and shallow diatribes from Green Arrow, and how he manages to insult any group he tries to stand for.
He calls Hal a Nazi loudly and often for trying to talk squatters into leaving, for wanting to hear both sides before a lynching, and even for apologizing to his boss for something innocuous.
He’s nothing if not consistent in his “form over substance” brand of justice. Pairing him with the ever-apologetic and also slightly-odd Hal Jordan (who really carries them both in any fight) was a great move in my opinion. It’s also great that they go on a road trip around America so that Ollie can have an opportunity to insult every minority group with his white savior complex.

If I had finished this it definitely would’ve been a 1 star read, the comics by themselves are not awful and I get why they were revolutionary for their time but I just don’t like runs that are purely just self contained stories, they were also super poorly paced and had so much dialogue although that’s just a 90s thing. The speedy issues were okay but not worth reading the rest of the collection just for them, also the treatment that Black Canary had was so weird it seems like the writers thought they were being feminist icons when they weren’t and her treatment at points felt misogynistic

This was my first foray into the world of Green Lantern, and my first introduction to classic non-Arrowverse Green Arrow, and it was well worth it. While the storylines are clearly of the time (not much nuance to the discussion, which I wouldn't really expect in a superhero comic anyway) they are still quite relevant. I really struggled with Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern character as he is so annoyingly driven by law and justice. And yes, I get that the whole point of this comic was to counterbalance GL's rigidity with GA's more liberal/chaotic views, but that doesn't make him the Hal Jordan of these comics any less of a goody-two-shoes.

I enjoyed the breadth of the stories, everything from environmentalism to cults, but will admit to liking the later stories, the more internal emotion-driven stories, more. I also loved the sass in these comics, GA's and Black Canary's quips were fun.

My favorite DC hero is Green Lantern and my friend's favorite DC hero is Green Arrow. So when we saw this collection we were like "Oh my god, this is Awesome!". Which it turned out to be. The first Appearance of John Stewart is included in this (Green Lantern #87), which is a must-have for me because John Stewart is my favorite Green Lantern.

"THE BATTLE OF VALUES THAT SHOOK THE NATION!"

This is the best collection of some of the best comic writing and artistry. The "Right on!" writing is a testament of its time but many of the moral conundrums that the duo and often trio (Black Canary) face still resonate to this day. One of the best I've read and I truly did, 'dig it'.
