I'm giving it 3 stars
There some times I was engaged in the story but most of the time it was so dull and nothing exited happened
I'm still reading the sequel because I'm hoping that it will get better

These books are all so easy to read, it's a relief I can fly through them so quickly! This was really good, with a strikingly different cast from the Trylle books. The only thing I didn't like about this is that the ending was really abrupt and left me with much more questions than answers. It didn't feel much like there was a complete story in this one, but otherwise I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
Rating: 3.5 stars
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
I am pleased to say that I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read once I sat down with the time to get through it, and I am looking forward to the next books. As a note: I did read the first book in the Trylle trilogy, so I recognize a few faces that reoccur in Frostfire, but like this book nothing was really explained in that book and I didn't feel driven to pick up the next book, so to be honest I don't remember much about it. Another note: I really just like that Frost poem, and it has the words ice and fire - you know, frost and fire - in it, so I figured I'd include :)
That all being said, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had read it over a couple days rather than in two sittings. This is simply because there is little to no action. The pace is slow, and there really isn't an established plot. Things just sort of happen, and the book follows. The ending was also very disappointing, because it felt like Hocking ended the book just one chapter too late. It could have made for a great cliffhanger, except that she had to wrap things up a bit with one more useless chapter. Oh well, at least I can start the next book right away.
My favorite things about this book were a) the mystery aspect, and b) the romance!
a) I'm not much of a mystery reader, but in this book the very investigative feel really worked. The reader found out things as Bryn did, and the plot continues to thicken and make choices harder and harder for the characters. Well done! Even though there are essentially no questions answered AT ALL by the end of the book, hopefully things will be explained in the next installment.
b) Ughhhh this romance had me swooning. SO CUTE and so wonderfully slow burn. The love interest becomes pretty obvious early on, but that's okay because that's not really what it's about. The only things that bothered me were the cheating aspect and the age difference. Obviously the second thing isn't negotiable, but I am hoping the first will go away with the second book.
Overall, this was a nice winter read. I am looking forward to finishing the series, hopefully in the next week. An easy read with lots of intriguing questions left unanswered!
