David Sloane is a skillful lawyer, who always seems to be able to convince the jury to see things his way. His life as a lawyer is interrupted when he gets a mysterious message and package from Washington. It seems to have something to do with a former advisor to the president who has recently turned up dead. David embarks on a quest to find out what is going on and why people are trying to kill him, and along the way discovers that the nightmares of his childhood could really be memories of an ugly truth.[return]A good solid suspense novel, everything seemed to flow pretty well. I liked the character of the rumpled police detective who helps David out. It seems like a good first effort, but doesn't stand out as outstanding.

I couldn't draw myself to finish this book. It started out really well, but seemed to kind of just hang about halfway through the book. The story didn't seem to develop along any further. I simply lost interest. Three stars because the story was good, but didn't have the patience to wade through what seemed like a large segment that became rather dry and boring.

This wasn't my favorite of Dugoni's, it took 3/4 of the book to have any idea where it was going. That said, will I read the next one? Of course.

Very good story, I just wish the title and plot matched a little more! Going off the title and beginning of the book, I thought this would revolve more around the MC's career as a lawyer, but that's not really he case. Regardless, very gripping read!

This title is so misleading! He's a lawyer for a couple chapters, sure, but then the entire rest of the book has nothing to do with law or anything remotely tied to a court room. It's mindlessly entertaining and action packed, if you're looking for that.

The story is interesting and I kept going because I wanted to know what happened. The characters are stock-standard and shallow, but thrillers like these are not really about the characters - they're just there to carry the story and the events. After a while I got pretty sick of the short chapters and the cliffhangers, but again, that's part of the genre. It's a first novel, and I suspect this writer will end up doing well. But I don't think I'll bother with him again.
