Sadly, this book didn't hold up for me on the second read. I remember it being fun and sassy, which I think it still is, but the plot is so unevenly paced and disjointed that I couldn't really sink my teeth into it. I still like Sally Jay but felt like ultimately I didn't really know her.

I didn't finish it. The narrator sounds like a female Holden Caulfield, and it just kept making me think of The Catcher in the Rye, set in Paris instead of New York. I couldn't get past that, so I ended up putting the book aside.

I kept reading this to find out what happened and because I enjoyed some of the writing, but I was bored for most of the book and frustrated with the main character. I think we're meant to be frustrated with her; she doesn't quite know what she's doing with her life and is stumbling through it as anyone in their early 20s does. But man she did seem like an idiot at times.
The strength of the book, though, is that you can see all of this happening. Even in 2023 some version of this book could happen. So while I was frustrated and bored at times, I was hooked in some way.
