Sally Jay Gorce is now among my favorite female characters in literature.:)
if i were to describe a book as perfect. it would be this one.
i could go on and write an overwhelmingly long review about how brilliant, how underrated, how perfect this book is. but i believe it still wouldn’t do it any justice.
as parting words (between me and the book) i have to say: i will simply not shut up.

“I had to tell someone how much I enjoyed The Dud Avocado. It made me laugh, scream, and guffaw (which, incidentally, is a great name for a law firm).” –-GROUCH MARX
I didn't laugh and scream as much but it was a fascinating step back into the late 50's - a time which often seems much farther removed than just a scant 50 years.
"The Dud Avocado follows the romantic and comedic adventures of a young American who heads overseas to conquer Paris in the late 1950s. Edith Wharton and Henry James wrote about the American girl abroad, but it was Elaine Dundy’s Sally Jay Gorce who told us what she was really thinking. Charming, sexy, and hilarious, The Dud Avocado gained instant cult status when it was first published and it remains a timeless portrait of a woman hell-bent on living."

Stream-of-consciousness writings of 21 year-old American Sally Jay having fun & frolicking in 1958 Paris on her uncle's dime. Plenty of adventures, gossip, falling in & out of love on a whim, mishaps, & interesting people. A light, airy read & a pleasant way to spend time reading a book....
