Generally quite interesting, but the author tends to go off on long tangents, and a lot of the material seems misplaced or irrelevant to the chapter.

I enjoyed the book overall, although there were definitely some chapters I found much more interesting than others.

This book was a perfect pre-bed read for me. Interesting enough that I wanted to keep picking it up (because I find language endlessly interesting, and because while each chapter is ostensibly about a particular language, the author also uses a chapter to tell a story of linguistic features and how history and culture influence how we think about language and how languages develop), but not so interesting that I stayed up too late reading it.
