I watched the show first and loved it, so I gave this book a try when I saw it. It reads wonderfully, like a romance novel instead of a historical textbook like most biographies about queens. I loved getting more details about the romance between the queen and Lord M. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it started to drag on toward the end and then ended rather abruptly. This is only about the earliest days of her reign, so if you're wanting something about her entire reign, this is probably not the one for you.

A wonderful book that pairs well with the TV series. The book adds depth to the TV series, while the TV series brings the book to life in your mind. However, I'm sure that the book would still be very enjoyable without having seen the series.

An very easy and accessible fiction about Queen Victoria. I wanted the book to be longer and contain so much more about her life as I think a lot was left out by only focus on a few parts of her life but it was very entertaining and enjoyable. Maybe the show Victoria that is based on this book touches on more things. But I'm not as good tv watcher as I am reading

Disappointing. Victoria comes across as petulant and shallow. The story seems to be written as a romance, except there is too much time spent on the futile conflict part, and the end romance comes out of practically nowhere.

2.5 stars. A throughly light & fluffy read—balls, dancing, and handsome men, glossing over anything political. I would have enjoyed this book more if not for Goodwin’s bizarre choices. Victoria’s love interest for most of the book is her Prime Minister, 40 years her senior, which is completely without historical basis. Inexplicably, Goodwin chooses not to explain this plot line in her author’s note. Victoria herself is prone to stomping her feet and throwing fits when she doesn’t get her way. Altogether a disappointing read.

Enjoyable reading, but I found Victoria to be a terrible character.

It is quite a tell tale that I finished this book in a day, hence a very good one! This book captivated me from the start, I needed me some Historical Fiction in me. Daisy Goodwin is an amazing writer so simple but still, has quite the hand for beautiful writing. Now I am excited for the show that is happening! Very happy with this book. :)
