Being a fan of historical fiction and of the show, The Crown, I was told I would enjoy Victoria. With quite a few Lords and Dukes and Ladies to keep track of and their connections to the throne and to each other, I wasn’t so sure at first. However, those details, though important, don’t weigh down the goal of the story: Victoria coming of age and coming into her own as queen. I am excited to see what carried over to the show since Goodwin initially wrote them both at the same time.
I received this from the publisher in a giveaway. And while i enjoyed the story very much, the editing left something to be desired. About 25% through the book i started correcting grammatical and spelling errors and sometimes words that had no place at all. Like taking great care to mention the name of the horse Monarch only to call the horse Brandy a paragraph later. It was appalling, do editors not edit anymore, do they just allow computer spell check? Because they obviously need to update their software if the do.
It started strong, felt bogged down in the middle and the ending seemed rushed and tacked on to end the story quickly.
Matched up perfectly with the Masterpiece show or vice versa. Really enjoying the story and hoping it is one that is followed up with more.

4.5. Slightly problematic; likely historically inaccurate. But it was addicting. My only complaint was the abrupt ending.
Found myself asking if there was a sequel to continue in the story of her life, so I guess that's pretty good.
I just wished that there was more Albert than only in the last part. Other than that, book was very well done - Victoria's personality was definitely consistent with other accounts. I also liked how well the other important characters (Melbourne, the Duchess, Conroy, Leitzen) were portrayed. Job well done, I hope she decides to continue into Victoria & Albert's engagement, marriage, children...
