4.5! Loved this one. Two things I wish... 1. There was more diversity in stories (lots of similar stories about getting through Covid, getting their first job at a book store, advocating for books to not be censored in schools, etc. and 2. The shoutouts to the author for donating money to their businesses felt a little forced and obligatory. Other than those two things, LOVE LOVE LOVED. I would have loved to hear more about book collectors and maybe more start-up indie book shop stories.
First book of the year, as a volunteer at the library, this book was so reaffirming. The passion the willing to help how valuable libraries and bookstores are important to communities and I loved reading how much value books and reading bring in to our lives. This is a must read!

A sweet audiobook listen. Nothing groundbreaking, at times repetitive, but overall a nice experience.
I listened to this book of essays written by librarians and book sellers and loved it. Book nerds talking about books is my love language.
This was sort of similar to Jen Campbell’s book: The Bookshop Book. However one key difference this book had was librarians. In Jen Campbell’s book there were just booksellers.
It was fun reading this book and the different POVs of the librarians and booksellers.
However I don’t understand why the title is called “secret lives”. I mean was it to create some sort of intrigue or suspense?
It’s pretty obvious what booksellers and librarians do and that’s what was demonstrated here as well albeit in a more focused manner. But still.
Nevertheless it was nice having the perspective of people who work in the background of bringing books to people whether they are librarians or whether they are booksellers.
