Enjoyed hearing the perspectives/stories of librarians and booksellers! However, the book's second half was tough to get through because it was so much of the same and felt very redundant/boring.

Ok. An odd review because I really don’t personally give it 4 stars…maybe more like 3, simply because it was too much of the same story (albeit a good one) retold by so many booksellers and librarians. It’s the concept and principle I give it 4 stars because I don’t want to skew the ratings people see if they’re a “rating reader” like me.
I do want their stories told but maybe not so many put together. Or then there’s the example of reading several and then Ding Ding Ding, there’s the owner of Browseabout, which is very near and dear to my heart and floods me with memories too numerous to recount.
And then there was the chapter near the end about the passionate school librarian whose books were being removed from her library and the roll it took on her but the passion which she collected and used for her convictions to stand up for the rights of all. Makes me want to start. New career at 70 and be one of those to work in a bookstore and stand behind what I believe in!
So 4-5 stars on principle. 3 stars on too much of a good thing.

4.5 Listened to this book and thoroughly enjoyed! Enjoyed hearing about others love of reading.
challenging hopeful informative inspiring medium-paced

This was a lovely anthology from several booksellers & librarians, mostly from North America. They discussed why they love their jobs, some concerns that they have about possible bans/censorship, and the connections they are able to make with their customers.

I've always had the pipe dream to either be a librarian (like my great-aunt) or to own a bookstore, so this book really fueled the fire for those dreams. It was wonderful to hear a realistic perspective and how magical it truly is to help people through books. This is definitely a must-read for all book lovers and a call to action for protecting our First Amendment right to the freedom of speech. Loved!

Are you a big book nerd? Have you always wanted to know how people become librarians or booksellers? Then this collection of interviews might be perfect for you! My lament…I wish it had more interviews of truly independent bookstore owners and employees. It felt like the majority of interviews were from bookstore chains … and those stores are super important to the book economy!….i just wanted more of the one off, mom and pop stores!

I didnt realise this was non-fiction until i started listening to it! Didn't realise i would love to work in a Library myself and be a super STEM librarian. Love the community building, the initiatives and how connected everyone is by books. Really reminded me why i loved reading so much as a kid and i'm glad this year i made it a priority in my life again

DID NOT FINISH

Even though I love books, I only read 10% of this book. It wasn’t interested and had so much repeating info. Some info—different city.
