3* — Sweet but Repetitive

This is a warm, feel-good collection of real stories from booksellers and librarians that celebrates the magic of reading and community. I loved the heart behind it, but after a while, the stories started to blend together since most follow the same pattern. It’s a cozy, uplifting read in small doses, but not something I’d binge cover-to-cover.

-contained no secrets
-Barnes and Noble is not a hero
-why are they all in present tense??

About a tenth of the stories were interesting.

A series of essays by librarians and booksellers. I enjoyed their perspectives but I wish the essays were longer with fewer participants. Nonetheless, I enjoyed their anecdotes about why they decided to pursue a career in books and dealing with the public.

This book was SO good. I did the audiobook in tandem with the ebook. It’s a must read for every book lover. It will make you feel all the things, much like a rollercoaster. It gives an inside look to the good, the bad, the ugly & the hilarious aspects of those who help promote literacy.

I don’t normally love nonfiction, but this was a really wonderful read! I loved getting a look into the lives of librarians in particular; as that’s the career I want to go into🤩

Okay so all the stories all sounded the same but I freaking loved it nonetheless.

The book was on a recommendation list so I started it, expecting a fiction story. I wasn’t too interested in the stories. I just wasn’t grabbed by the first one. I have so many other books I’m eager to get started.

Interesting stories from booksellers and librarians through out the US and Canada. Such a variety of personal stories and experiences are shared within these pages. Lots of different topics are explored such as the change in how we consume books, how we buy books, the pandemic's affect on books and reading, as well as book bans, just to name a few. There are a couple here and there that a fairly similar to each other.
