A lot of sex for an alien invasion
3.5 stars. Cool and original dystopian sci-fi, but a little too gruesome/body horror for my tastes (and I got quite impatient towards the end). Undecided if I will continue the series.

Interesting subject, but it got long towards the end, and it seemed like the author introduced too many new elements, which got confusing.

This was such an interesting read. Much more hard sci-fi and heavier on the science than I usually read, but it was really enjoyable. The mechanics of the world and the alien invasion unraveled in an accessible, curious, and overall engaging way that made me want to keep reading more.
The main character is miserable but the writing was done well enough that it was actually sometimes fun getting to watch how other characters interact with him and deliver consequences of his ableist, misogynist, and frankly juvenile worldview.
I really enjoyed this as a fan of speculative fiction and I’m excited and hopeful to learn more about this universe in the rest of the trilogy.
