Idk wtf I was expecting but it certainly wasn't that. The second half of this book gets a little bit ridiculous but my advice is to keep reading. I loved this book then i hated it but kept reading because I loved the characters and appreciated how self aware the book is that it gets ridiculous, then I actually enjoyed the ending. If you haven't read this author before, I wouldn't recommend starting with this book.
Graphic: Violence, Body horror, and Kidnapping
Moderate: Death, Forced institutionalization, Gore, Gun violence, Sexual harassment, Torture, Alcoholism, Confinement, and Sexual assault
Minor: Drug use, Chronic illness, Animal death, Cancer, Panic attacks/disorders, Cursing, and Pregnancy
Solid amount of violence, as to be expected. I feel like putting all these content warnings makes it sound way worse than it actually is.5hadow_girl's review

So THAT'S a diple...
I read through the first book in on Sunday. I was so deep into J.A. Konrath's world that I couldn't pull myself out. Just a little bit into part two is when I went to bed, after an internal debate on whether smashing my phone to kill the Kindle app would make me feel better. As you see... phone is intact. It's because I was so mad that I couldn't sleep, and I had to keep reading.
I'm happy I made it past the hurdle.
I hope you will, too.
It went somewhere I did not expect, and I don't think I would have picked up the book if it was in the synopsis, BUT... I loved it. When I meet Mr. K,, I may kick him in the shin for that hurdle, but then I'll thank him for it all.
