An enjoyable and humorous listening experience, read by the author herself. I look forward to more creative projects from Issa Rae. Go team ABG :-)

I love Issa!
Such a hilarious book and her upbringing was so cool to learn more about. Especially being an ABG myself, it was nice to see the culture differences with the people she was exposed throughout her life and traveling. Everything she touched eventually was inspiration to go into the next artistic idea she was going to bring to life.

I read the physical book with the audiobook. Great speaking voice, I could listen to her yap all day 😂

I have mixed feelings on this book. Some of the essays I enjoyed and really had me laughing, some made me cringe.

GOD this book made me feel old (i'm only 39, people).

i'm trying to read more books by women and minorities, but it probably would have helped if i were more familiar with her work. though, to be honest, this book didn't necessarily inspire me to check it out. i liked that her voice was young (maybe too young?), and also that she was very confident about herself and her awkwardness, which i loved.

overall, it was fine.

An easy and fun read!!! I found Issas writing to be very relatable! I also identify as an awkward black girl and we have a similar family background. When I found ABG waaay back in HS I immediately fell in love so I knew I had to read the book. She’s open and honest about herself and I just really enjoyed this read and I hope you do too if you end up picking it up.
