My first audiobook!
I absolutely love Issa Rae and the audiobook version is read by her, which I think was super beneficial to book. I loved learning about her life and after binging her tv show Insecure, it makes me want to watch it all over again.
I wish the memoir was not done in essay format, because some of the timeline was difficult to follow but overall if you love Issa Rae I highly recommend, specifically the audiobook!

(P.S. Just because she is funny does NOT mean her whole life is, I was so annoyed with all of those complaints in the reviews)

Sweet collection of tales of how Isa has made her way.

Awkward

I really enjoyed this read. It is full of laughs and awkward moments that we mostly all faced at some point in our life. She gives us conversation and thought provoking pieces. #KNL

This wasn't funny, or interesting etc. Seems like you need to know and care about the author ahead of time. An assortment of non sequiturs isn't a great medium to get to know someone through.

3.75ish

I don't think this is her medium, loved the youtube series and her HBO show, but couldn't get into this book.

This book confused me. No rhyme or reason to it, not chronological, nit by theme or lesson. Just awkward stories haphazardly thrown together. They're entertaining, but some organization would've helped me.

Listened to the audiobook, started off slow, a bit boring based on my expectations from her persona on ABG and other shows. But it got more interesting and relatable towards the second half. Even had a few chuckles.
