With Vol 2, Chaos Theory, Marjorie M. Liu continues her run on X-23, following the crossover event with Daken. To be honest, I have found Liu's work on the character to be a little uneven, especially after recently reading Craig Kyle's fantastic take on Laura's origin story. At the same time, it certainty has its strong moments.

Vol 2 is divided into two storylines, Touching Darkness and Choas Theory. The strongest part of both would have to be the art, including Sana Takeda's beautifully intricate work, and Phili Noto's more minimalist approach. Touching Darkness is pretty much everything a good X-23 storyline should be. Laura's quest here is very personal, and her interaction with side character (Gambit, Wolverine, and a newly vamped out Jubilee) are strong. Chaos Theory, on the other hand, while not bad, doesn't really suit the character as well. Although this pan-dimensional tale picks up some of the threads dangling from The Killing Dream, I'm not sure how I feel about the direction it went in. Choas Theory also features Spiderman, and the Fantastic Four, and the interaction between wise cracking Spidey and the more deadpan Laura is pretty great.

In conclusion, there's some good stuff to be found here, but so far I'm not seeing Liu's run on X-23 to be a must read. Still, if you're really into the character, it's worth checking out from your library.
