Saw a short biography of Gypsy Rose Lee on the television show "Sunday Morning" in which it was disclosed that she wrote a mystery. Sooo I decided to seek it out.

She made herself a character in the book, but she assigned some of her signature moves and remarks to other characters, and not to herself. Interesting burlesque background/history and realistic dressing room dialogue. Otherwise pretty light reading.

I can say I read it, and would only recommend it to the likewise curious reader.

A fun read mostly because it is written by a woman (either by Gypsy Rose Lee or Georgiana Ann Randolph Craig) and depicts life in burlesque during the latter part of the depression.
Only 3 starts because the mystery is solved with information not revealed until the end, and the wrap-up was somewhat confusing. Also, Gypsy is the narrator but it’s a man who solves the case, which was disappointing.

Très belle surprise, ça m’a fait penser à un agatha christie des années 60 dans un théâtre burlesque. J’ai adoré !

Controversy abounds concerning the authorship of this book. Was it ghostwritten by Craig Rice or did Gypsy Rose Lee bash it out herself?
My money is on Rice, it feels like a Craig Rice book. Lots of characters, humour, cross talk, wisecracks and a mystery that sometimes drops in importance behind all the aforementioned things.
Whoever wrote it though it's a pleasing way to while away a few hours. A little light murder to pass the time between those great serious tomes you've been meaning to read.

Couldn't get through this one. Mostly because it was always unclear who was speaking when there were multiple characters in a scene.
