I struggled with the first 70 or so pages feeling slow or like not much was happening, but when the first of many plot twists occurred I couldn't put it down. Give it a chance.

"It was suddenly as if, for the briefest of moments, the burden had been lifted, like there was no gravity at all, like he had finally set down the heavy load he’d been carrying.. "
Hard to write a review of such a character oriented book. No surprise that I loved this book. Patrick Ness has a way of pulling you into the story every time. All the snipets of the past were so good even when it broke my heart. Love it

There were plenty of elements that I enjoyed about this book: suspense, general plot and tropes, the feeling of “more than this” that was provoked by wanting to know what happened next. A few things like character development (Tomasz’ english was a big one) could have been better for me. Overall a good read.

Such a unique and interesting book! I love the blend of sci fi, contemporary, and existentialism. There were a lot of points where we don’t know what is going on, but neither does Seth, so it really feels like we’re figuring everything out (or not) with him. The character development was great too. Although the ending was satisfying for me, I could see why people would want more, and I do wish there were a bit more answers for some things (but that was also kind of the point).

The world built was somewhat derivative, and while the general idea is solid, at the end I am left with too many questions and uncertainties to like it.
Like, what was with all of the coincidences? Is it a made up world or not at the end? Why did the driver heal him? What is the driver? Is there any hope in either of those worlds?? Kind of, even philosophically I don’t see the point of things. Also, I like Tomascz, but he does not sound like a kid, and not a Polish kid that learned English from movies.
