This was an atmospheric and entertaining short story. It was interesting seeing a more in-depth view of the Darkling's backstory. However, the narrative seemed confused as to what it was trying to say. The resolution and "character development" was supposed to be about Grisha being persecuted, but the narrative itself backgrounded this topic in favour of showing Grisha infighting and the danger the Darkling was in due to being an Amplifier.

The Demon in the Wood is an intriguing short story, but it felt kinda mediocre to me, so I’m giving it 2.5 stars.

shorter than i expected, but i appreciated some action happening right away in something leigh wrote :D

very cool backstory, this gives more insight into how alexander came to be who he is.

although i hate alexander more than any other character, i cannot help but wonder what would´ve happened to him had the people in his life been kinder to him. what fate would´ve met him then?

though his methods were bad, this really helps clear up the darkling’s motivations and reason for why he did all of the things he did in the series. all he wanted was to be safe :(

It was very interesting to learn more about The Darkling’s tragic past. Leigh is not justifying his actions, but helping the reader understand them.
