Oh boy. Well Gwynn and her family I thought were as charming as a loving family could be. The same could be said for Devlin’s as well. After reading the story I understand and see that special need that Gwyn and Devlin had for each other. I have to say that the narrative was a bit winded in the book. It wasn’t difficult to get through. The narrative offered the readers the story behind the romance. I liked that it provided me a little more information about each character. The romance turned into one of the most grandest love of all. The story was cute and sweet.

I view a Mary Balogh historical romance as a comfort read... I can feel pretty safe knowing what to expect... a romance, a country house, and a large extended family setting. This became jarring to me over the course of the book, however, because it was just too comfortable and the characters were always choosing the emotionally healthy path and emotionally healthy communication, even after family trauma, and I don't know, it just made me tired after a while. I finished the book, and I may continue with the series, especially if I want a light read. But, really. It was much too easy to resolve conflict in this, and it bugged me.

While I enjoyed the young characters and the family set up, I wasn’t excited by the lead characters and got frustrated with them without enough fondness to push through.
Was he really worth waiting for? Really?

This was a very Mary Balogh book and as I love her style it worked well for me. She is able to take family drama and write such dear inner emotional journeys for her characters.

Potential nominee for the @CanRomAwards, so prefer not to rate, but would recommend to fans of Marrying Winterbourne by Lisa Kleypas. Review will be up shortly.

Thank you to Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book. It was a wonderful start to what looks to be another great series from Mary Balogh. The main characters in this book are both strong minded and strong willed people, however by telling the truth Devlin suffers a severe setback to his life's plans which alternately upsets Gwen's life plans as well. As these two navigate through this upset you find yourself cheering for them to be reunited. It looks to be an interesting family which will lead to many more stories about the Ravenswood's. As per always Balogh has written a wonderful story with great characters and has y0u already thinking about all of the other family members stories and what they will be. Thoroughly enjoyed book one and can't wait for book two!
