I'm not able to finish this right now - it's well-written and very suspenseful, but too intense for me right now. I need something lighter. Therefore, I can't give it a reasonable review or rating.

This is a very solid thriller, with an interesting premise and compelling characters. The protagonist is Evan Delaney, a lawyer who finds herself mixed up with an "end-of-the-world" cult. To make matters worse, the cult has links to her family, and things get personal very quickly.

The action moves swiftly, and there are lots of twists and turns over the course of the novel. Gardiner's writing is very accessible, and although she has a few authorial "ticks" I found a bit distracting -- a tendency to overuse sentence fragments, for example -- but she does manage to realistically create Evan's internal monologue, making the action sequences and torment she feels over the course of the book seem realistic and making the reader find out what happens. There were a few over-the-top comedic moments that fell a bit short for me, but overall it was a very strong read, and I will definitely be reading more from this writer.

The story moved along pretty well, although I did wonder how the main character kept managing to find herself in such predicaments. And why, oh why did she keep seeking out encounters with the Remnant loonies?! Overall, a good in-between book and a pretty fast read.

This book really needed tighter editing. It could have been a page turner but it was way too long and everything was so over the top.

I've always found cults extremely interesting and terrifying, which made this mystery engrossing. I enjoyed learning about the characters and guessing what each of them were hiding. The plot was complicated, but made for a great read.

This book is an extremely fast-paced, taut thriller. It reminds me of the show 24 in the way Gardiner keeps throwing things at the reader to keep the story moving. It can be a little far-fetched at times, but if you were willing to look past this, you are in for one heck of a roller coaster ride of a book.
