I saw the Ben Kingsley movie many years ago and my memory fades of it, but they show the story starting after he gets to India, I believe. I don’t remember that Gandhi started out in South Africa where he put his ideas into practice. There are so many things that Brad always brings out in these stories that I didn't know.
Brad brings energy and lightheartedness to these stories of real people. The nephew loved the little kid who kept shouting “Truth Force” all the time.
Learnings
I didn’t know about the statue to Gandhi either, but it makes a whole lot of sense there was a memorial set up to him.
These were tumultuous times and the book makes it feel pretty safe and all the violence is pretty much removed. We do see Gandhi in jail.
He was a small man.
I know a lot more about him than in this book, but it’a s great introduction for children to learn about him.
The nephew thought the little kid version of Gandhi was hilarious. He likes these books. He asked why getting salt would get you thrown in jail. There isn’t a good answer to that. People are silly at times and that makes others suffer. He thought this was a good story and he gave this 3 stars. He was in a good place for this.

I am Gandhi tells the story of the life and work of arguably one of the greatest influencers of peace our world has ever seen. Through all of the challenges that Gandhi faced, his choice was to remain calm and never react in a sense of revenge towards any of his enemies. This book is a perfect description of what it means to peacefully disagree and make more of a difference that way, and it can be used in a lesson about civil rights and civil disobedience. I love these books because they are easy to understand and are illustrated to create more meaning in the stories.

I love this series and always enjoy that I learn something along with the kids. When Scholastic puts all these into a boxed set, I’m buying it for sure!

Graphic novel biography of Gandhi Includes a timeline and suggestions for further reading as well as a few primary source photographs at the end. Message of peace and non-violence. Fairly simple, nice use of colors. It was fine, just nothing to make it really stand out.
As I understand it, the text was taken from a previously published book and was put into the graphic novel format this year.

The pictures were nice but the story was lacking. There is so much more that could've been told about Gandhi, his work, and his legacy. Even without adding length, I think more detail could've been added thus improving the work as a whole.
