Oh, Dorie, how I admire and adore you. This is my favorite of her books thus far! Every page made me squeal and sigh and dream about cooking my way through the book. An outstanding, classic-but-with-twists, lovely book.

Gorgeous. Lush. Delectable. Magnifique! I could run out of adjectives. This book is amazing. The recipes are amazing---French family recipes, mostly, not ones that take three days to make. They are more complicated than many American recipes, but I have a feeling a lot of them are worth it. Some ingredients are not going to show up in small towns in Iowa :-) but who cares. Just looking at the pictures and reading the commentary are worth it. If a cook even managed to add two or three of these to her repertoire, she'd astound her friends and be considered a genius. :-) On top of that, comments, tips, "bonnes idees" and more. I really don't think I can rave about this any more. If there is a Cookbook Award of Awesomeness, I hope this wins. It's big, and lovely, and therefore a bit on the pricey side, but if I could I'd give one to my dh's aunt and cousin and anyone else I really liked. :-)
