5/5 stars - how is something like this... so beautiful. at some points it was slow (I mean come on, this book is a thousand pages long) but otherwise... this is a masterpiece. Rothfuss must be some sort of real life wizard, but who is to say he's not??

spoilery thoughts:
- I <3 the university, sim, wil, and fela
- denna is pissing me oFF
- the maer and his kingdom was really interesting
- felurian,,, not my fave.. that tree though - so strange
- love tempi and the Adem, so strong but cool
- whaT THE FUCK BAST who even are you!!!

He looked out over the water for a long time before he answered. "It's an edge," he said at last. "It is a high place with a chance of falling. Things are more easily seen from edges. Danger rouses the sleeping mind. It makes some things clear. Seeing things is a part of being a namer."

This book could've been 300 pages shorter. I find I rather enjoyed Kvothe when he was in university than when he was out of it.
This book also well laid out the seeds of doubt of Kvothe as an unreliable narrator.

Despite certain parts of the book being a chore to read, I loved being back in this world. I don't want to read The Slow Regard of Silent Things just yet because when will Doors come out? Tehlu only knows.

Rothfuss has never spoken to a woman in his entire life.

4.5 Stars (warning: here be spoilers)
Okay, I read over a few of the reviews and am happy that I am not the only one left scratching my head after reading this wordy novel. I give it 4.5 and that is stretching it, but darn if I don't love his style of writing.

~ First of all this novel was about 300-400 pages too long.
~There was too much space given to Denna (barf) of which she is one of the worst characters and is absolutely annoying. She really is not necessary (at the moment).
~ The hunt for the bandits was way too long and most of hat was written was not necessary. Could have been summed up in half the time.
~ WAY to much Fairy sex for my taste. Again, could have been summed up in 1/4 of the time.
~ Too much time with the Adem and Lethani.

Is it just me, or is there a great deal of misogynistic undertones in this novel? The whole "Adem women and sex" thing just kind of took it over the limit for me. Kvothe really needs to control the women in his life to have some semblance of balance.

Where is Kote's motivation???? All he does is ask people "What/where/why are the Chandrian?" Hardly pushing the story plot forward. So he just does random things.

One of my biggest peeves of the novel was the contradiction of half the material in the other half of the novel. EX. We read about 100 pages and (somewhat) learn about what the Lethani is...... yet soon as he leaves he straight up massacres 9 bandits because they aren't Ruh....uhhhhh ? what?

All that being said, I feel the first 1/2 of the novel (minus Denna) was amazing. I love the University world that Rothfuss has created and all the characters in that world. Especially Elodin and Auri.

Do i still love this Series? Yes. Will I read the next noel? Yes. Did I want a bit more substance? yes.

I still think he is one of the greatest writers I have read, I just wanted another "Name of the Wind" Which was brilliant.
