Hatchet: The Call

I read to my kids and we didn’t love returning to the first story. We loved the first one so much, we didn’t feel like it needed anything else.

These books are short, short stories. I like them. A story of life, a good life. I want to live in the forest. A must read.

I really loved this book and it's portrayal of Brian's trauma, how it's affected his life, and how he deals with it. I enjoyed this whole series but this was probably my favorite, though it wouldst have been possible without its predecessors.

This is the ending I would have hoped for Brian after reading The River and seeing how he might have experienced a winter in the bush.

I loved that Brian just needed some gentle guidance from outsiders to know where he truly belongs. And the guidance was very broad yet covert, such that Brian had to sit with the knowledge gained from such conversations.

The Author's Note at the end from Paulsen is amazing. I would have never known
that Paulsen also went through these experiences.

So far, this has been my favorite of the Brian's Saga novels/novellas.
