Loved this book. Had great twist with another poss father in story. Great first romance feel with hot sexy stuff. Janey is very annoying with her stalker/obsessing over Len. If he doesn't go for her by now he prob won't. Hopefully their story is just as good. Great HEA.

A great read

A good reintroduction to Vivian Arend. I haven't read anything by this author for a while. The storyline was an interesting premise that kept us in suspense until the end. Good writing, good characters.

This went from a very far fetch premise, to irritating, and then ridiculous.?
SpoilerIt only takes one person for a DNA test. And the restraining order wow, really ridiculous. Supposedly they have to wait because they have to have both possible men as fathers (NOT). It is obvious that Simon is trying to keep them apart and it would be cruel to keep a mother's significant other away from her during her need in support of pregnancy. Would the courts be so cruel when there has been no violence in adulthood and a sealed record being used against him? When he was 10? It is so, so stupid.
Before this I liked at least Gage and Katie's relationship but I ended up hating it as there is no way, no way. One you can test but even if not his, she goes to court and describe the attack and the order is dropped. So then, until then I might have given this a 3 star but not strong because come on... why would she put up with Simon and let him even come around?
Spoiler She should have believed Gage and told Simon, sorry your not the father, why would she not completely believe Gage? Argh. The guy is such an ass just say, not yours to the court. The DNA was the last straw. If that was the need, just get the test with Gage 99.9% positive without Simon at all. You don't need Simon. But with all the proof even if it wasn't Gage's get married. In Canada as England when you are married, you are the father when the baby is born. Done. Answer.
All of these plot convenience, rant, rant rant
Spoiler she goes at the last minute to him, she has an accident he doesn't hear (small town), and then sends email (she doesn't get because passwords), email friend brother (he doesn't get because it bounces back!), then amnesia. Then asshole claims they got back together, you don't like or want him tell him to get lost period. You don't want to get back together whether you believe him or not and no one likes him! Then Gage comes home and she acts standoffish! What after just saying to her best friend she is going to try to make a move next time they go to the local bar? Argh, there is so much wrong with this that I was willing to over look but the ending. Simon attacks, attacks them at her house! He has a restraining order and a judge listens to the attacker about Gage to issue a restraining order for him and Katie, what? Oh, might be his kid and a violence of Gage? From childhood is used from a sealed file... who can say illegal! and then the ending... they don't even talk about recompense for false statements, for illegally acquiring sealed files, for attacking the house, for putting Simon away and suing and anything else? It was so bad in the end that is took any enjoyment out of the book. Oh, sneak into the hospital for the birth? Right, if he had a restraining order it wouldn't matter because now he actually is doing something wrong and might be charged with something that could do bad.

I don't think I've ever actively disliked a Vivian Arend story but this almost makes me not want to pick up another. I usually like to OK/good rate her stories and enjoy the easy read. This blew my top, anger for the stupid direction and character decisions. Oh well. I have a recommend to read of hers, hopefully it'll be good because this really soured my taste for the Rocky Mountain.

Audible Romance package.

I'd like to think that the bullshit Simon pulled couldn't happen but well I believe it. Although a judge using one at least ten year old case of violence in self-defense is really stretching the need for protection.

Really 4.5 Stars

FTC : I was provided this book by the author for an honest review. I am a massive fan and work with her often. Although I don’t think this has influenced this review, I do know that her style of writing has always worked for me.

The thing I always enjoy about Vivian Arend novella’s is the amount of content that she packs into them. This tale runs alongside the novella that is in the Marked anthology and features Katy, the sister that we know has short term amnesia after a car accident. This is a second-chance story (with an amnesia twist) all mixed in with a secret baby plot … I really did enjoy it. If anything, I think it possibly needed a few more pages ; a moronic complaint to have about a novella I know but that is my thoughts on the matter!

When Katy finally dumps the odd boyfriend, Gage decides to make his move. Timing not being his strong suit, he does this the night before he has to go away for a while. Whilst he is away, under the impression that they are now a couple, she has her accident and forgets all about him! Determined not to lose her now he knows what they could have, he decides that, even though she doesn’t remember what they shared, he will woo her anyway. Then she finds out she’s pregnant and, try as she might, she can’t push the old boyfriend out (who she doesn’t remember dumping) because there is the chance that he could be the Father. How do you start a relationship with a woman who doesn’t remember your previous encounters, thinks she still is in a relationship with her ex and doesn’t know who the Father of her unborn child is? It’s a tricky one…..

I see this as more Gage’s book than Katy’s and I don’t know why. He was the person fighting for he wanted, the one driving the relationship forward as Katy was pretty much stuck trying to remember her recent past. I loved Gage and I loved that he had decided that Katy was worth all the trouble. He didn’t care that she may never regain her memories or that she may be carrying someone else’s child; he just wanted her. He was so dreamy and lovely that I pretty much swooned when ever when he came on the page… he is one of my favourite Arend hero’s. I admired Katy as a heroine, her strength and her character evident in everything that she did. I just felt that the difficulties that she faced overtook the development of the romance a little bit too much and because of this I saw this a tale of Gage fighting for the one he loves and Katy trying to cope with her situation.

This is actually quite sweet for Vivian Arend, the sex being fairly infrequent and more sensual. Every sex scene did have a purpose, every scene developing the plot a little bit more and they were all very enjoyable. As I say, this is more of a romantic novel than a sexual one and the prose throughout reflected that.

I love Vivian Arend and this one was no different. A sweet romance with a dreamy hero and a secret baby plot? Totally one for me :)
