I added content warnings because I generally don't read books that have children injured or killed, so I'm not sure why I picked this one.  I didn't realize the extent the book would cover the children's death. That doesn't have anything to do with the 3.5 stars, its just my warning to other readers.  Despite the above, I did keep reading and enjoyed the book.  For me a 3 is ok, a 4 really good and I personally withhold 5 starts for something really special or something that touches me.   I did have the who of the of one of the twists figured out, I just didn't know the way.  And I knew the who & why of one of the other murders as soon as it happened.  So 3.5 stars because it was a good book, good storyline but I wasn't wowed.  Would recommend to others with the content warning ahead of time.

This was essentially self insert JonBenét Ramsey fanfiction, which, as a girlie who loves fanfiction, was extremely off putting. Strangely, I found the end/epilogue the most interesting bit bc it was the only bit that felt like the author didn’t lift it directly from another true crime case. I probably would have DNFed if I wasn’t reading this for a book club.

I loved the book and definitely points where I could not put it down. It is a POV book with the characters set in different years but there is crossover on characters between the 2 POVs. If you don’t listen to her podcast Crime Junkies the ending is a bit of a cliff hanger but they say a line similar in a lot of their episodes so it made sense to me and I was ok with it.

As a Crime Junkie, I was excited to dive into the world of Ashley Flowers. And I was right.

Her knowledge and fascination with the world of true crime results in a well developed story with interesting characters and an excellent mystery.

The only slight downside was that I was able to solve the mystery and figure out the big twist midway through the story and while she kept tossing red herrings out, turns out I had nailed it early on.

But the cliffhanger at the end brought it back up a star. I was not really expecting that! Hopefully this is the first of many from Ashley!
