Great book! Followed up to the first in a good way and I enjoyed the plots they went with, specifically the drifting apart one because I love a good separation arc. Also the Aaron thing? So surprising I honestly still don't know how I feel about it. Anyway I liked it, maybe not as much as the first one but this was still a fantastic story that I enjoyed. Cant wait to read the third one!!

Just like the first book, you have to read a few chapters to get into it. When I read the beginning I was kinda thinking "oh no here we go... it's going to just end up cheesy and cliché wont it" but actually it was almost as good as the first book. It felt like not as much happened in this one, but I actually did get really engaged and couldn't stop reading it so I think overall it was pretty good. I especially liked how much depth was added to the characters we have been following since the first book, specifically Lily.
I'm not a fan of how nobody did anything more than fixing the main characters physical injuries after the ritual at the end of book #1. I think all Maeve, Roe, Fiona, and Lily would have all received some level of psychiatric care but it becomes very evident throughout this story that they both didn't and should have. I get that maybe psych wards don't quite fit into the plot line here, however, I wish the author would have chose to do something else rather than enforce that other characters in the book believe the ritual was a suicide attempt without properly addressing repercussions of adults believing that a child endangered themself (and others) in that manner.
Despite all that, it was still a fantastic read and I finished the book in just a few days.

This series is excellent. I love the characters and the magic system and the intertwining of ideology and magic.
This book was quite a bit darker than the first one and sometimes stressed me out a bit, I don’t love it when books make me anxious.

Personally, I liked this book more than the first one. All the new plot points tied in really well and didn’t feel randomly added in, they felt planned. The modern media references continued to throw me off, but there were less so it was easier to read. I really enjoyed the conflicts and personal struggles each character went through. They felt realistic and relatable. The plot twists towards the end of the book had my jaw dropped and I didn’t know who to trust. I would say the only thing that I disliked was (minor spoiler about a new character’s background) Manon’s source of power. Gods were never mentioned before this, so it felt very random. It seemed like a way to give the group a super powerful ally (because they desperately needed one.) Otherwise, I think the plot moved at a good pace and I enjoyed all the characters. It’s not a literary masterpiece, but it’s still a really good sequel and a nice casual read.

Spoilers****Bro roe had me mad when he was trying to say that it was trauma like I know it was apart of something from COB but like seriously get it together. He's still so hot ngl. Fiona is so strong I love her so much and lily is just an oddball and ofc nula and her daughter were amazing. Maeve's parents not understand her was heart breaking tho.
