took me forever to read because i really couldn’t get into it. i had a hard time giving a shit about any of the characters, but the concept was cool. it felt like it was setting up for a second book, and lowkey i would have read the book after this one perhaps. but pretty meh overall.

I thought the ending was sooo cool with hannah like in the dark net, but the way she was described as existing in the dark net was corny. kind of living for the crime fighting writer with her dog and her cyber niece! i think that was a much cooler concept like seriously this book felt like a setup for a much better book… whatever though! at least i finished!

Deadlands and Red Moon were both 5 star reads for me so it pains me to give this a mere three stars but I must. This book had a LOT going on. Cyber thriller, new technology, serial killers, and loads of supernatural elements. I agree with the other reviews that the summary of this book doesn't really do it justice. I guess I just wished I knew more about what was going on while it was happening if that makes any sense. The plot moves so quickly (which is great) that I didn't feel like I really have a handle on the story until halfway through.
Oh and I guess I forgot how gruesome Percy's books are? I remember some violence and gore in his other two but this one takes it to a new level. Fair warning!

This book wasn't what I expected. I was looking forward to inventive techno-horror... but didn't really get that until the final third of the book. Instead, we spend time with the main characters as they deal with the evil building up in Portland as the literal gates of Hell threaten to spill open and engulf the world. Parts of this book feel very 70s-throwback-ish, like The Omen with technology, as all sorts of demonic entities, including hellhounds and various gross and disgusting things come teeming out at people from dark corners... and it's up to our ragtag bunch of misfit heroes to save the day.
In the final part of the book, we see how the forces of evil use the ubiquitous network of tech to infiltrate every person's consiousness, providing a dire look at just how wired in and dependent we truly are (as if we had any doubt).
The Dark Net is a quick, sometimes gross, sometimes scary read that frightens more with its reflections on our lack of privacy in our cyber-dominated lives than by its invocation of demons and evil gaining world domination.

Interesting idea, I suppose. I found the execution completely lacking, and didn't feel anything for any characters. The book took too long trying to decide if it was sci-fi/fantasy or just straight up horror and then didn't really stick the landing on either.
