A lot of food for thought here. Some of what Carr talks about we are seeing happen right now. He proposes several implications of technology and what it's doing to our brain. Great read!
Well researched at times, and written in a sophisticated manner. I wasn't convinced on his argument nor the scientific evidence presented. A good idea for more books to come in the near future.

Thought the book was good, just got tired of hearing about how the old way is superior to the new way

A masterful and well-written, if somewhat one-sided, analysis of how the Internet and spending time on screens is affecting our brains. I particularly enjoyed his history of technology in writing and reading and how the progression affected human thinking and individuality. The author's summary of the science of the brain is also very good. Nicholas Carr is concerned how humanity will change as technology and screens progress. His conclusion is that the changes are for the worse. I hope that our future is not as dire as he predicts.
While this book is an interesting read the way it is structured isn't always clear. Many times Nicholas Carr would digress from the main subject and goes on and on about something unrelated keeping us wondering "so what?". However, I can only recognise the extensive references that are backing up his claims, all the conclusions in this book are based on science and the extensive bibliography will satisfy the most curious readers.
I spent a few days on the first 60 pages of this book, unable to focus for more than a few minutes in the internet-style thinking the author describes perfectly in it. Once I sat down with a cup of tea, committed to it, and blocked out distractions, I finished it in a matter of days. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is thorough, informative, and strangely comforting if, like me, you find yourself distracted and short of attention from years of online browsing. Once I finished, I deleted all social media apps off of my phone and went for a long walk in the park. If you want a profound, informative, and attention-grabbing look into how our brains are changed by the internet, this is the book to read.
