Haunting and eerily strange. At time poetic, but very slow moving. Toni Morrison is definitely a poet with words.

The story of a woman named Sethe, 18 years after she escaped slavery, and after she was almost recaptured. The story is about the trauma and the ghosts that follow her and all the other characters.

Amazing book from a lot of standpoints, writing style, characters & the way they interact. Hard to read sometimes. The way I kept describing it to people was looming dread but not quite; more like whenever you picked it up to read it there was always something lurking in the corner not ont the horizon. I believe this is old enough to be considered a classic book, if so definitely one of my favorites. The writing is genuinely great and it needed to be to get through all the complexity that is people.

What an incredible book. We chose to read this for book club as it is one of the most commonly banned book in America. The story had so many metaphors it was an excellent choice for discussion. The author said in an interview that she wrote the book so that readers would get a richer understanding with a second read, and I am excited to follow her advice.

This was a very difficult book to read in many ways, but I would fully recommend.
