This was my first Toni Morrison book and I was left speechless. Her way of writing is just incredibly powerful. I can’t lie this book was not easy to get through mainly because of all the metaphors and plays on words but also because of all the difficult situations happening in the story. I read this in class which isn’t always the best and I hope to reread it again sometime. Just amazing!

I was confused at least 50% of the time I was reading Beloved, hence the 3-star rating. Either that's the point or you have to be smarter than me to get this book. It was a painful and real story, not for someone who needs a happy ending. Overall, I enjoyed the book.

This was a really beautiful read. At some points my interest really waned but I loved the underlying tenderness of even the most gritty and tragic moments.

While I think this book is worth the read, part left me incredibly confused at times. I think Toni Morrison is a fantastic writer, but her prose was almost too much here.
